Neve Horim was founded in 1878 in the Old City of Jerusalem by the community leaders. At first, it functioned as a Day Center for the elderly; later it became a fully functioning old age home. After the turn of the century, the Home moved from the Old City to the Romemea section of Jerusalem.

In August of 1966, the Home moved again to its current location in the Katamon Quarter of Jerusalem.

The United Aged Home currently cares for 256 people between the ages of 75 and 105. Only a handful of these are capable of independent living. The rest rely on our professional staff of doctors, nurses, social workers and therapists, along with a host of dedicated volunteers for all their daily needs. Staffers are specifically trained to understand the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the elderly.

Our recent renovation allowed our occupational therapy programs to benefit from a new home base. In a light and airy room, with tables for crafts projects, and lots of storage space for supplies, our staff is able to cheerfully greet the residents for programs each day. Unique crafts, cooking and gardening projects, under the guidance of out therapeutic staff, help residents connect to memories of their younger days, safeguards their motor-skills and vision, and gives them a sense of accomplishment. Some of the crafting programs are done in cooperation with some students in our neighborhood who lovingly visit our residents as part of an intergenerational program.

As we face the future, we see ever-greater challenges. The United Aged Home receives help from the Israeli Ministry of Health and Welfare, however, as a non-profit institution, we must rely on donor support to meet day-to-day needs and prepare for the needs of tomorrow. Currently, the home operates at a significant deficit, but because of the importance of our mission, however, we cannot - and will not - allow our standard of service to decline.

Donations are tax-exempt in both the U.S. and Israel.
